La Massana
La Massana is one of Andorra's most beautiful mountain parishes, a destination of dramatic Pyrenean scenery combining outstanding skiing at Vallnord, excellent hiking in summer, the historic Sant Joan de Caselles church and a charming small-town atmosphere that provides an authentic alternative to the busier resorts of the principality. Combined with Andorra's famous tax-free shopping and the spa culture of Caldea, La Massana provides an excellent base for exploring this unique microstate.
Elect's take
"La Massana has a quieter and more authentic character than Andorra la Vella. The skiing at Vallnord is excellent, the mountain scenery is dramatic and the combination of outdoor activities with the practical benefits of Andorra's tax status creates an interesting destination."
The Vallnord ski resort, combining the Pal-Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalís sectors, provides excellent skiing and snowboarding across varied terrain with reliable Pyrenean snowfall. The Romanesque church of Sant Joan de Caselles is one of Andorra's most important historical monuments with beautiful frescoes. Summer hiking in the surrounding mountains is excellent, with routes connecting to the GR11 Pyrenean long-distance trail. Andorra's famous tax-free shopping, particularly for electronics, perfume and alcohol, is concentrated in Andorra la Vella approximately 15 minutes away. The Caldea thermal spa complex provides excellent wellness facilities.
