What I find most compelling about Spain is how distinct each region feels. Catalonia, the Basque Country, Andalusia, Castile and Galicia each have their own language, cuisine, architecture and character. Barcelona is one of the great European cities, combining Gaudí's extraordinary architecture with a world class food scene and beautiful beaches. Madrid has evolved into a genuinely exciting city with outstanding museums, a lively tapas culture and excellent hotels. San Sebastián has one of the highest concentrations of Michelin starred restaurants in the world and the pintxos bars of the old town are among the great food experiences in Europe. Spain also excels at resort experiences, from the Balearic Islands to the Canary Islands and the Costa del Sol.
