"Praia do Forte has a relaxed and beautiful character that I find very appealing. The combination of the beach, the turtle conservation project, the natural pools and the proximity to Salvador's extraordinary culture creates a destination that rewards a few days of unwinding."
Praia do Forte's beach is one of the most beautiful in the Salvador region, with calm natural pools formed by coral reefs at low tide providing excellent swimming and snorkelling. Projeto Tamar, Brazil's most important sea turtle conservation organisation, has its headquarters here and provides outstanding educational visitor experiences with five species of sea turtle. The pedestrianised village centre has a relaxed atmosphere with excellent seafood restaurants serving Bahian cuisine including moqueca fish stew. Salvador, with its UNESCO listed Pelourinho old town, Afro-Brazilian culture, capoeira and outstanding music heritage, is approximately one hour south.
