Elect's take
"Durham has transformed itself into one of the most interesting small cities in America. The food scene here is genuinely outstanding for a city of its size, Duke University is beautiful and the combination of academic energy and Southern warmth creates something I find genuinely appealing."
The American Tobacco Campus in downtown Durham is a beautifully regenerated historic tobacco manufacturing district now housing outstanding restaurants, bars, galleries and offices that has become the social heart of the city. Duke University's West Campus is one of the most beautiful in America, a Gothic Revival masterpiece centred on the stunning Duke Chapel. The Durham Farmers Market is excellent and reflects the outstanding local food produce culture of the region. The food scene, centred on chefs like Ashley Christensen, has won national recognition.
