The Grand Place is one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Europe, a gilded ensemble of Gothic Town Hall, Baroque guild houses and the King's House creating a setting of extraordinary drama particularly when illuminated at night. The Art Nouveau architecture of Victor Horta, expressed through the Horta Museum and numerous private houses across Ixelles and Saint-Gilles, represents the finest concentrated Art Nouveau heritage in the world. The Royal Museums of Fine Arts houses the finest collection of Flemish paintings in Belgium. The Atomium, built for the 1958 World's Fair, remains an extraordinary architectural icon. The restaurant scene, particularly for traditional Belgian brasseries serving moules-frites and waterzooi, is outstanding.
