Elect's take

"Alpe di Siusi is one of the most beautiful landscapes I have encountered anywhere in the Alps. The combination of the vast green plateau, the extraordinary Dolomite peaks and the quality of the South Tyrolean hospitality creates an experience of remarkable beauty and refinement."

The Alpe di Siusi plateau sits at around 1800 metres and is closed to private vehicles, accessible only by cable car from Siusi or by shuttle bus, which preserves its extraordinary tranquillity. In summer the wildflower meadows are extraordinary, with the rocky towers of the Sassolungo rising dramatically above. The Seiser Alm ski area provides excellent skiing in winter with beautiful scenery. The rifugio culture of the Dolomites is wonderful here, with excellent mountain huts serving outstanding South Tyrolean food and wine. The villages of Castelrotto and Ortisei below provide beautiful bases.
