Discover Morocco: A Travel Guide

Africa
Morocco is one of the world's most atmospheric and captivating destinations, combining ancient medinas, Saharan landscapes, coastal cities and a rich cultural heritage shaped by Berber, Arab and Andalusian influences. From the labyrinthine streets of Marrakech and Fes to the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert and the blue city of Chefchaouen, Morocco offers an experience that feels genuinely removed from everyday life.
Elect's take
"Morocco delivers an intensity of experience that is difficult to find elsewhere. The colours, sounds, architecture and hospitality combine to create something that stays with you long after returning home."
Marrakech is the obvious starting point and it earns its reputation. The medina, the souks, the palaces and the riads create an environment that is endlessly fascinating to explore. Beyond Marrakech the country reveals further layers. Fes has one of the best preserved medieval urban environments in the world. The Atlas Mountains offer trekking, Berber villages and a dramatic change of scenery within a short drive of the cities. The Sahara Desert, accessible from Merzouga or Zagora, provides one of the great travel experiences anywhere. Camping under desert stars after riding into the dunes at sunset is an experience I would return for without hesitation. Morocco also excels at riad accommodation, where traditional courtyard houses have been converted into some of the most beautiful boutique hotels in the world.
