The beaches around Tangalle, including Marakolliya and Goyambokka, are among the most beautiful and least developed on the south coast, with golden sand and excellent swimming in sheltered bays. Rekawa Beach, approximately 10 kilometres east, is one of Sri Lanka's most important sea turtle nesting sites, with five species of turtle nesting on its shores and excellent conservation-focused night viewing experiences. The Mulkirigala Rock Temple, a series of cave temples carved into a rock outcrop with Buddha images and ancient murals dating back over 2000 years, provides an outstanding cultural excursion. The Hummanaya blowhole, one of the largest in the world, provides a dramatic natural spectacle. The lagoons around Tangalle provide excellent boat trips through mangroves.
