Sri Lanka combines ancient Buddhist temples, wildlife reserves, tea plantation highlands, pristine beaches and a warmth of hospitality that makes every visit memorable. From the sacred city of Kandy and the rock fortress of Sigiriya to the whale watching waters of Mirissa and the beaches of the south coast, Sri Lanka delivers remarkable experiences.
Elect's take
"Sri Lanka surprised me with how much it packs into a relatively small island. The combination of culture, wildlife, landscapes and beaches creates a complete travel experience that is genuinely difficult to find elsewhere."
The Cultural Triangle of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya provides some of the most significant Buddhist heritage sites in Asia. Sigiriya, a fifth century rock fortress rising dramatically from the jungle, is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites I have visited anywhere. Kandy is the spiritual heart of the country. The tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya offer cool temperatures and outstanding tea estates. The south coast beaches combine excellent swimming with outstanding whale watching.
