Elect's take

"Fuqing is primarily a business destination with practical access to the wider Fujian coastal region. Pingtan Island nearby provides excellent beach experiences and the proximity to Fuzhou gives access to Fujian's cultural and culinary heritage."

Fuqing's main interest for visitors lies primarily in its connections to the overseas Chinese diaspora from Fujian and its practical location between Fuzhou and the coast. Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone on Pingtan Island, approximately one hour by road, has been developed with beautiful beaches, water sports facilities and resort amenities. Fuzhou, the provincial capital with outstanding San坊 七巷 historic district and excellent Fujian cuisine, is approximately 45 minutes north. The Meizhou Island, sacred to the goddess Mazu worshipped by coastal communities across Asia, is accessible from Putian nearby.
