Elect's take
"The Lake District is one of those landscapes that exceeds every expectation. The combination of light, water, mountain and the quality of the walking creates something genuinely extraordinary and I find it one of the most restorative destinations in England."
Windermere is the largest natural lake in England and the most accessible part of the Lake District, with beautiful boat trips, outstanding walking and an excellent collection of luxury hotels and restaurants. Grasmere is the heart of Wordsworth country with the poet's homes at Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount providing exceptional literary heritage. Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain, provides the ultimate fell walking challenge. Coniston Water is beautiful and less visited than Windermere. The area around Hawkshead and the Langdale Valley provides some of the finest walking in England with extraordinary views in every direction.
