Fagu
Fagu is a small and beautiful hill station near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, offering some of the most spectacular Himalayan panorama views in the region from its ridge-top position at over 2500 metres, away from the crowds of Shimla itself. Combining apple orchards, pine and deodar forests, outstanding mountain viewpoints and a more tranquil pace, Fagu provides an excellent retreat destination within easy reach of Shimla's colonial heritage.
Elect's take
"Fagu is the kind of place I would choose for the views alone. Sitting above Shimla with uninterrupted Himalayan panoramas and apple orchards stretching across the hillsides, it provides a genuinely peaceful alternative to the busier hill station below."
Fagu sits on a ridge above Shimla at over 2500 metres, providing some of the most spectacular uninterrupted views of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges available in the region, particularly stunning at sunrise. The surrounding hillsides are covered with apple orchards that are part of Himachal Pradesh's significant fruit-growing economy, with blossom in spring and harvest in autumn providing beautiful seasonal colour. Dense forests of pine, deodar and oak surround the area providing excellent short walks. The Mahasu Peak, one of the highest points in the vicinity, provides additional panoramic views. Shimla itself, with its colonial Mall Road and toy train, is approximately 30 minutes by road.
