Jodhpur
Jodhpur is the Blue City of Rajasthan, dominated by the spectacular Mehrangarh Fort rising 120 metres above the city on a volcanic rock outcrop and surrounded by the beautiful blue-painted houses of the old Brahmin quarter that give the city its famous nickname. From the Mehrangarh Fort and the Jaswant Thada memorial to the bazaars of the old city and easy access to the Thar Desert, Jodhpur provides an extraordinary and authentic Rajasthani experience.

"Jodhpur is the Rajasthani city that most consistently impresses me on every visit. The Mehrangarh Fort is extraordinary — the finest fort interior in Rajasthan — and the view over the blue city from its ramparts creates one of the most memorable images in Indian travel."
The Mehrangarh Fort is widely considered the finest fortification in Rajasthan, and its museum housing an outstanding collection of Rajput artefacts, weapons, palanquins and textiles provides an exceptional introduction to Rajasthani culture. The blue houses of the Brahmin quarter visible in their entirety from the fort ramparts create one of the most distinctive cityscape views in India. The Jaswant Thada, an ornate white marble cenotaph, provides a beautiful counterpoint to the red sandstone of the fort. The bazaars of the old city, particularly Sardar Market, are outstanding. The Thar Desert begins at the edge of the city and desert safari experiences are excellent.
