Elect's take
"Jabal Akhdar is one of the most surprising destinations in the Middle East. The combination of the altitude, the dramatic landscape, the rose gardens and the extraordinary quality of the resort experiences creates something entirely unlike the rest of Oman or the Gulf."
The Jabal Akhdar plateau at over 2000 metres provides dramatic mountain scenery, cool temperatures and beautiful terraced cultivation of roses, pomegranates and peaches that would be unimaginable from the desert below. The famous Damask rose cultivated here is distilled into rosewater of extraordinary quality. The ancient falaj water channels carved into the mountain rock to irrigate the terraces represent a UNESCO World Heritage water management system. The Diana's Point viewpoint provides the most dramatic views of the dramatic wadi below. The hiking routes along the old donkey trails through the villages provide outstanding walking. The Alila Jabal Akhdar is considered one of the finest mountain resort experiences in the Middle East.
