Lisbon is one of the great city break destinations in Europe. The combination of hilly neighbourhoods, historic trams, azulejo tile facades, outstanding restaurants and a lively contemporary scene makes it endlessly enjoyable to explore. Porto is different in character but equally compelling, with its riverside Ribeira district, port wine lodges and a food scene that has developed rapidly in recent years. Beyond the cities, Portugal rewards exploration. The Douro Valley wine region is spectacular, particularly during harvest season. The Alentejo offers cork forests, medieval hilltop towns and some of the finest rural hotels in Europe. The Algarve combines dramatic limestone coastlines with excellent golf and resort experiences. Portugal consistently overdelivers for the price.
