Museum Island in the heart of Berlin is a UNESCO World Heritage Site housing five of Germany's most outstanding museums including the Pergamon Museum with its extraordinary ancient treasures and the Neues Museum with the famous bust of Nefertiti. The Holocaust Memorial adjacent to the Brandenburg Gate is one of the most moving and architecturally powerful memorials in the world. The East Side Gallery preserves the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall as an open-air gallery of international murals. The contemporary art scene centred on galleries in Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg is exceptional. The food scene has developed enormously and the nightlife remains the most celebrated in Europe.
