Elect's take

"Frankfurt is consistently underestimated as a destination and consistently rewards visitors who give it more than a transit stop. The combination of outstanding museums, excellent food and wine culture and the beautiful reconstructed Altstadt creates a genuinely enjoyable city."

The Römerberg, the medieval heart of Frankfurt with the beautifully reconstructed Römer town hall and its surroundings, provides one of the most atmospheric old town squares in Germany. The Museumsufer along the southern bank of the Main concentrates over a dozen outstanding museums within walking distance of each other, including the world class Städel Museum of art. The Sachsenhausen neighbourhood on the south bank is famous for its Ebbelwei (apple wine) culture in traditional taverns. The Rhine wine country of Rheingau and Rheinhessen is approximately 45 minutes by road.
