Hua Hin
Hua Hin is Thailand's oldest and most genteel beach resort, a royal seaside town approximately 200 kilometres south of Bangkok that has been favoured by the Thai royal family since the 1920s. Combining a beautiful long sandy beach, an excellent night market, outstanding golf courses, easy day trip access and a relaxed atmosphere entirely distinct from the party culture of Phuket and Koh Samui, Hua Hin offers a sophisticated and understated Thai beach experience.
Elect's take
"Hua Hin has a refinement and a Thai authenticity that the more developed resort areas of the south have largely lost. The combination of excellent hotels, outstanding food, beautiful golf and the royal town atmosphere creates a destination that I find genuinely appealing."
The beach at Hua Hin stretches for several kilometres of clean sand with gentle surf and a pleasant promenade. The night market is one of the best in Thailand for quality seafood and local produce at accessible prices. The Hua Hin Railway Station is one of the most beautiful colonial-era stations in Thailand. The Cicada Market provides an excellent contemporary arts and crafts market. The Sam Roi Yot National Park with its dramatic limestone hills and cave temples is approximately 40 minutes south. The golf courses around Hua Hin are among the finest in Thailand.
